Some boy bands never die; they break up, regroup, go on hiatus, try again. And, of course, they grow up.

The Backstreet Boys, so popular here during their late ’90s heyday, have set a release date for a new CD, “This Is Us.”
The 11-track disc comes out Oct. 6 on Jive Records. The first single is called “Straight Through My Heart.”

The Backstreeters have a link to the Birmingham area, in case you’d forgotten: band member Howie Dorough has cousins in Homewood.

Backstreet’s Back (In Court)

The Backstreet Boys are back, all right, and not just on the radio waves. The same day the bubblegum pop sensation of the late ‘90s announced it would release a new album this fall, one of the group’s members was busy with his own new release – bankruptcy court papers.

Howie Dorough (not the blond one that all the girls crushed on, nor the wholesome lead singer or the older one, and certainly not the bad boy) filed an objection Tuesday in the Chapter 11 proceeding of Lou Pearlman, the boy band mogul who spawned the Backstreet Boys and their rival for pre-teen hearts, ‘NSync. Backstreet Boys’ Howie Dorough Welcomes a Son

Backstreet Boys’ Howie Dorough welcomed a son Wednesday, his rep confirms to Usmagazine.com.

His wife, Leigh Boniello, gave birth to the couple’s first child, James Hoke Dorough, at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. He weighs 4 and a half pounds and is 16 1/4″ long.

The singer, 35, met Boniello in late 2000, as she was hired by the group’s management to be the webmaster of the Backstreet Boys’ official site. She traveled with the group during their Black & Blue tour.

Dorough and Boniello were engaged on August 2007, and they got married four months later

Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough to Be a Dad

Backstreet Howie Dorough and his wife Leigh, a real estate broker, are expecting their first child in June, they tell PEOPLE exclusively.

“I know she’s going to be a great mother,” says Howie. “If she can take care of me, the biggest baby in the entire world, I think she’s going to be okay with the little one coming along.”

Adds Leigh: “I think he’s going to be more hands-on than anyone expects. He’s someone who will get up in the night and change diapers. He’s such a partner of mine.”
