Brian Littrell comes home for Christmas

Brian Littrell’s last two Lexington concerts were in Rupp Arena with a little act you might have heard of, the Backstreet Boys.

The way his mother, Jackie Littrell, sees it, being part of the chart-topping act has been a “steppingstone” to what he was doing last night: Singing contemporary Christian songs.

“It’s wonderful, it’s a dream come true,” the proud mother said right before her son’s concert at her church, Immanuel Baptist. “He’ll always be a Backstreet Boy, but the Lord is his heart.”

Littrell took a big step into the gospel market last year with the release of his solo debut, Welcome Home, an overtly Christian album reflective of artists he grew up listening to, such as Sandi Patty and Michael W. Smith.

Backstreet Boy brings act to Lexington church

Brian Littrell’s debut solo album is called Welcome Home, and the Backstreet Boy is bringing it home next week in his first Lexington concert as a solo artist.

“I’d deal with being in the Tokyo Dome in front of 55,000 people better than being at Immanuel Baptist, when it comes to a nervous standpoint,” Littrell says, with a laugh. “I’m always a little nervous, but playing in front of your peers and smaller audiences is a little more intimidating.”

Littrell has played Lexington before, as a member of the Backstreet Boys, the chart-topping act he’s been with since 1993. But then, he was part of a quintet that included his cousin, Estill County native Kevin Richardson.

Video for “welcome home (you)” grabs award nod

(Nashville, Tenn.) February 20, 2007 – Nominations were announced today for the 38th Gospel Music Association Dove Awards with pop/gospel superstar Brian Littrell receiving continued recognition for his solo debut gospel project, Welcome Home (5/2/06). Chosen to be one of the presenters during today’s press conference, Littrell also celebrated his 32nd birthday from the podium with a stirring four-part harmony birthday wish sung by all in attendance.

Not only will Littrell be competing in the Short Form Music Video category for his clip “Welcome Home (You),” but he will also be co-hosting this year’s show with Dove-winning artists Natalie Grant and Donnie McClurkin.
